Mothers invited to stroll strong with Ellen

A former Royal Navy Officer is putting her best foot forward to head up a popular walking group in South Derbyshire. Ex Chief Petty Officer Communicator Ellen Merrilees left the forces in April after serving for 22 years in various locations across the country. The 40-year-old, who lives in Blackfordby, is now enjoying a new career path as a qualified fitness instructor.
As well as running ‘Boogie Bounce’ sessions in Moira, Ellen has also taken over the Strolling Strong Buggy Walking classes at Rosliston Forestry Centre. She is encouraging new mothers to get into shape and enjoy the scenic surroundings at The National Forest tourist attraction from 11am on Thursdays.

Ellen said: “Being in the forces and part of a team for so many years I enjoyed meeting and helping different types of people.
“I am delighted to be given the opportunity to take over the Strolling Strong exercise walk and I am looking forward to helping mums to get fit, healthy and active.”
The Strolling Strong sessions, organised by Get Active in the Forest, include an exercise workout and cost just £1.50. New mums are invited to attend after they have had their six-week check by the GP and have been given the all clear to exercise.
