New Year, New Leaf, New Challenge

Whether you are starting to Jog as a New Year resolution, or already a committed Jog Derbyshire participant, now's the time to start thinking about making the most of your efforts and planning some activities and challenges for 2010.
If you are starting from scratch in January, why not aim to do a Sport Relief Mile in March, a 5k in the summer and if you are going really well a 10k in the autumn, finishing off with a fun santa/pudding run in December.

January

Start Jogging!. No seriously, joining one of our Jog Derbyshire groups is a great way to start the year and get active. And for those of you already jogging with us the ideal way to kick-your system into 'go' mode after the usual Christmas excesses. There will be a host of new groups starting in the new year so use our group search facility to find the nearest one to you.

March

Not done a race before? Why not take up the challenge of completing one of the Sport Relief Mile events happending around the county. You can choose 1, 3 or 6 miles, but if you're just starting out and a new beginner then do the 1 mile challenge....and get some of your family and friends to jog it with you! To find out more and register your interest, simply go to http://www.sportrelief.com/

If you live in the north of the county and fancy a different challenge, you could always sign up for Dronfield's annual Fun Run and 10k. http://www.7thdronfield10k.org.uk/

April

Done a Sport Relief Mile event and want something more chunky to challenge you?
There are many 10k events held around Derbyshire throughout the year, but why not consider doing the Derby 10k in April? For those who have been jogging with us for a while in one of our intermediate or advanced groups this is a great city-run challenge. You can enter as an individual, or why not get a few of your Jog Group buddies to run it with you. There is also a Corporate Team Challenge - so a great way to encourage your workmates to take up the 10k challenge too. (Click on the Cooper Parry box to the right for more information).

And if doing a 10k is still not within your sights, then you can always enter the fun run (which is great fun for beginners and those still new to jogging). Both the 10K and fun run finish with a lap around the pitch at Pride Park.
For more information email 10k@sporting-futures.org.uk or telephone Sporting Futures on 01773 841447. Entry forms can be downloaded from www.sporting-futures.org.uk/10k.html

May, June, July

Why not commit to do the Race for Life in the summer (usually races take place during May, June and July depending on where you live) and raise money for Cancer Research UK whilst you jog round with fellow Race for Lifers. A fantastic 5k challenge for all you female joggers!
Event registration normally takes place from January onward. Go to http://www.raceforlife.org/register-for-2010.aspx for details.

September to December

Why not do a 10k or two? In September there are various Cancer Relief 10ks, including Kedleston Hall 10k, but there are many more events in and around the county such as Clumber Park 10k (October) and Bolsover 10k (December) to name just a couple.

If you'd like to end your year with something a little more light-hearted then why not try one of the many fun run or Christmas themed events which take place during November and December, such as the Percy Pud 10k or Elvaston Castle Santa Run. There are some great runs planned for all abilities levels and ages, whether you're a beginner or a budding Paula Radcliffe.

There are many other races and fun runs too - so why not check out our Fun Runs and Races page for ideas of events taking place in and on the edges of the county which you could set as targets.
