There are a number of possible delivery methods for our Jog Derbyshire groups that will directly affect the payment (or non-payment) of Leaders.
As a 'hosted' volunteer
Some Jog Leaders will be volunteers who have volunteered to run a Jog Derbyshire group to raise funds for a group, project or cause (the host) that they are involved with or support e.g. village hall association, mothers and toddlers group etc.
In this instance, the Leader may agree to levy a charge for members to attend the Jog Derbyshire sessions and the funds raised will go towards the 'cause' and any expenses incurred (e.g. venue hire).
The Jog Leader will not receive any payment for their time, which is freely given, but would be entitled to, and may choose to, claim back from the host any expenses they incur e.g. travel expenses, venue hire.

As an independant volunteer
Some Jog Leaders will be volunteers (giving their time freely) who are not attached to any group, project or cause, but simply wish to lead a Jog Derbyshire group in the area where they live or work.
Often in these circumstances, there will be no charge for jogging group members. However, If the group incurs a costs (e.g. to hire a room to meet up before or after sessions etc.) the independant volunteer Leader will need to cover these costs and will probably do so by charging a small weekly fee.
In this instance, the Leader and members of the Jog Derbyshire group may decide to become a more formal organisation, and open a bank account for any surplus fees generated. Your local Council for Voluntary Services (CVS) can provide advice on how to set up as an organisation with a bank account.

As an Employee
Some Jog Leaders may be paid for leading their groups by their employer as part of their job. Jogging group members would be charged for attending a jogging session and all income from these session fees would go into the employer's funds (e.g. a jogging group run by the local Leisure Centre).
As a Freelance or Self-employed Leader
This would be an independently run group where the Leader would charge jogging group members for attending. All income would go directly to the Jog Leader to cover any local administration costs and pay the leader for their time.
Workplace Leaders
How these are managed will depend on the individual workplace. The Jog Leader may be leading the group on a voluntary basis or may be paid by his/her employer to do so. The group will adhere to the Jog Derbyshire guidelines and code of conduct that apply to all the different types of groups.
Please note: Jog Derbyshire advocates that leaders/commercial groups should not charge in excess of £2 per person per session (or £20 for any 10 week block).
Jog Leaders who levy a charge for leading groups are reminded that they need to keep accurate records of all income/monies taken and any related expenditure.
Similarly groups/organisations that raise funds through their jogging group members are also expected to keep records of monies taken/raised and any related expenditure.
Records should be kept up to date and all relevant receipts retained for reference.
Jog Leaders working on a freelance basis (independently run groups) are required to declare all earnings to the Tax Office.
