Jackie

Jog Leader Kate Wills from Swanwick Joggers, and fellow Jog Derbyshire joggers are praising the efforts of group member Jackie Denton who successfully completed her first ever 10k at the Cancer Research Race for Life event at Kedleston on 18 July.

Jackie registered for the 10k ages ago, but I wasn't sure if she would do it until the day. She was really nervous and didn't tell anyone in case she couldn't do it!

Her day didn't get off to a great start (getting stuck in queuing in traffic for over an
hour, then having to leave the car and walk 2.5 miles to the start in order to get there on time) but ended in triumph with Jackie completing her first ever 10k in 82.50.

Jackie said "I completed it - it took a long time, but my aim was just to finish. When I got to the 9k mark I had all on to hold myself together and not cry, cause I knew I was going to make it.  It was a very emotional experience". After the event, Jackie reported a few blisters and aches but said she was looking forward to doing another 10k later on in the year.

Congratulations to Jackie. And we wish Jackie every success in her next endeavour - the Great North Swim event at Windermere in September - a 1 mile open water swim which will be another first for our Swanwick jogger!.

Bakewell Jogging Group Tackle Pudding Race.

A team from the Bakewell Jogging group, based at Bakewell Pool, gave themselves a hearty challenge in entering the Great Bakewell Pudding Race on 27th June - a 10.6km fell run with a climb of 700m!

All competitors were rewarded with a congratulatory pat on the back from Jog Group Leader, Peggy Wilson, after completing the race, which raises funds to support chosed Carnival Charities and local good causes such as Bakewell Youth Group, local sports teams and Bakewell bell ringers.

Peggy and joggers Mike, Sara and Becky stayed together as a team to offer each other encouragement to complete the distance (as it was the furthest two of the group had done before) in a terrific 85 minutes. The other jog group participants - Andy, Stewart and Alan - ran independently, and achieved some fantastic times (Andy 56 mins, Alan 66 mins and Stewart 73 mins).

Pictured are: Back L to R - Alan Biggs, Sara Barrett, Stewart Bartle, Mike Hillam; Front Peggy Wilson (Jog Group Leader), Becky Goodchap, and Andy Anderson.

Well done to Peggy and the team from Bakewell! We hope to see you at the Jog Derbyshire 5k in September.

Swanwick Joggers take part in Cancer Research Relay

A team of keen fundraising joggers from Jog Derbyshire's Swanwick Joggers group will be taking part in the Cancer Research UK Relay for Life in Swanwick on 14 August.

Every relay last 12-24 hours, with team members taking it in turns to walk laps of the event track or field for the duration of the event. The race took place on one of the hottest days so far this year with temperatures over 26 degrees. The course was quite hard with the first 4k being uphill and the running surface uneven ground but all the Jog Eckington Team did exceptionally well in a field of 949 runners.

Jog Eckington is soon to unveil its new Team Colours for training and events, which will be launched in early June to coincide with the first anniversary of the 'Jog Eckington' group.

Melbourne Joggers enjoy local Fun Run event

A group Melbourne Joggers took part in the Melbourne Fun Run in April.  The Fun Run event is organised Melbourne Rotary Club. Runners have a choice of two distances - the Funny Bunny Run which is a 5.6km run and the Rabbit Race which is 11.6km.

Melbourne 2010Ten of the Melbourne group took part - 6 jogging the shorter event and 4 the longer 11.6k. For some this was the furthest they had ever run. The atmosphere on the day was terrific, with family members there in support to cheer people on.
