You don't have to be super-fit to enjoy cycling, and it's good for you!
Any type of regular exercise gives you some health benefits but cycling is particularly good because fewer injuries occur as a result of it.
Cycling can:
- Make you feel good
- Give you more energy
- Have positive effects on your well-being and self-confidence
- Help reduce stress, tiredness and difficulties with sleep
- Keep your heart 'strong' and reduce blood pressure
- Help to control weight
- Help build and maintain healthy muscles
-
Help older adults become stronger and better able to move about without falling
- Almost everyone can do it, its suitable for all ages and abilities.
- Its easy to fit in to your lifestyle.
- You can do it anywhere and at any time.
- You can start slowly and build up gently.
- Cycling is a low impact exercise - kinder on your joints than running and other high impact aerobic activities.
- There's rarely a need for special gear, except perhaps a waterproof when the clouds gather.
- It doubles as transport, so it could save you money as well!
The current recommendation for physical activity is just 30 minutes a day 5 times a week of moderate activity. Cycling is a perfect way to get your 30 minutes a day!. That's all it takes to feel the difference. Remember to start off slowly and build up.
Start by building up slowly and plan short routes on quiet roads or try the vast array of cycle networks across Derbyshire.
